Whether it is a screw in wheels shopping cart or an office chair, a caster is used to move an object. Castors work against gravity and are usually attached to the bottom of a larger object.

Why do antique chairs have castors?

Castors are available in various sizes and materials. These wheels are abrasion resistant, have excellent cushioning, and are resistant to oil and chemicals. They operate in various floor types and temperatures.

Castors are commonly found in office chairs and toy wagons. They also are used in medical equipment. The main disadvantage of casters is the flutter that occurs when the wheel moves at high speeds. This is similar to the speed wobble that occurs in other wheeled vehicles.

A caster may be mounted on a pivot or on a fork. The pivot point is adjusted by using strut rods or eccentric cams. If the pivot point is not adjusted correctly, the caster will move into and out of each turn.

Some casters also have a brake feature. The brake is designed to prevent the wheel from turning. These wheels are usually inexpensive and may also have a brake feature.

The wheels are made of rubber, polyurethane, or a composite material. They have high abrasion resistance and can handle different floor types.

Castors are classified into 27 categories. Some types are made of heavy-duty materials and are designed to carry loads of 50 tons. These types are used in tow lines in factories and plants.

The most common type of casters are Top Plate Castors. These are designed to provide the highest strength and durability. They typically have four bolting holes.
